$2 Million for 16 Teeth

pulling teethA 28-year-old South Carolina woman has won a $2 million jury verdict against Sexton Dental Clinic in Florence, S.C.

The woman went to the dental clinic in 2006 for a cracked tooth. The dentist recommended that she have three teeth pulled and get a partial denture. Another dentist at the clinic mistakenly pulled all 16 of her upper teeth and then fabricated her dental charts to provide a false reason for pulling all 16.

The dentist was found liable for $800,000, while the clinic was found liable for $1.2 million. Since 2000, the dental clinic has been sued at least seven times. One of the suits is still pending involving a woman that was put under anesthesia in early June, then died at the clinic.

The woman who lost all her teeth plans to have restorative surgery as soon as possible. That’s estimated to cost at least $80,000.

The clinic attorney says he is considering an appeal.
