According to Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley, Dr. Michael Clair used everyday paper-clips instead of using stainless steel posts in his root canals. Dr. Clair then charged Medicaid for the expensive posts.

On top of assault and battery charges stemming from the paper-clip use, Dr. Clair is also accused of illegally prescribing drugs and submitting false Medicaid claims.

Dentist pleads to dumping medical waste

Thomas McFarland, 61, of Wynnewood, PA, pleaded guilty to a fourth-degree charge of dumping medical debris from his practice into the waters near Avalon in summer 2008. The plea deal means McFarland will serve probation and pay the borough $100,000, but will avoid jail time.
