Another child dies after sedation dentistry

A 4-year-old girl died August 14th after a dental procedure at a Tulsa, OK dental clinic. Akasmse Rose Tecumseh is one of six pediatric patients who have died in the past 16 months in the U.S. while undergoing dental treatment.

The child received some restorations and crowns at the Pediatric Dental Group and died after leaving the practice. The primary dentist at the clinic is listed as Dr. Charles Keithline, a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and a diplomate of the board. The procedure done on the Tecumseh was performed by an associate of the practice.

The Tulsa Police Department and the Oklahoma Dental Board are investigating.

Is it even safe to use sedation dentistry on children? Shouldn’t there be age limits for that?
