Dentistry at “basement” prices

Amparo Rodriguez and Oscar Moran

A Virginian woman turned to police after a failed root canal preformed in the basement of an acquaintance’s rented house. The woman told police that Oscar F Moran, who worked for a dental lab, took her to an unlicensed dentist who could help her “for a much cheaper price than a regular dentist.”

Moran took the woman to a house with a hidden dental office in the basement (through a secrete door behind a refrigerator no less). In the basement an unlicensed female dentist named Amparo Rodriguez performed a root canal for the woman. The woman developed an infection a few days after the procedure at which time Moran gave the woman some antibiotics. After the infection continued the woman sought real medical help and then the help of police.

Police arrested Moran and Rodriguez and charged them with a felony invasive procedure charge, the two also were charged with felony money laundering and a misdemeanor count of unauthorized distribution of a controlled substance.

Good lord! I had no idea how much unlicenced dentistry there was going on before I saw this blog! Seems like good material for a horror movie to me… I couldn’t imagine doing it.
