Tiffany Holmes, 20, of Chalmette, LA was arrested by sheriff’s deputies after the dentist reported finding unauthorized prescriptions for pain pills had been written using his office computer system.

Holmes was booked on eight counts of obtaining controlled dangerous substances by fraud and deceit, said police. She was booked on Jan. 5 and since then, five others — including her father, a brother, the father’s girlfriend and two friends have all been arrested.

A total of 160 pills of hydrocodone were written over the last several months, authorities said. The sheriff’s office credited the dentist for being on the lookout for the illegal distribution of controlled drugs.

This is a good lesson for all prescribers to monitor their electronic prescriptions. With the increasing popularity of e-prescribing it is going to become a larger problem for the medical field. People no longer need to forge the signature of the prescriber, all they need is their password and they can prescribe medications to anyone they want!

The job of dentist is to provide a SMILE DDS on their patient’s face. I don’t why they involved in such illegal offence.
