Man sues dentist for punctured bowel

Stephen James of Hamilton, Massachusetts has filed a half a million dollar lawsuit against a dentist who allegedly dropped a foreign object into the man’s throat, eventually puncturing the man’s bowel.

Mr. James visited Dr. Priti Amlani in 2008 for restorative work on two crowns on his upper teeth. During the procedure the said he felt something hit is tongue while the dentist was removing a hardened molding.

A few days after the dental work, James began feeling some stomach pain, but passed off the pain. Almost a month later James went to the emergency room, where a CT scan indicated a foreign object was lodged in his lower intestine.  He underwent emergency surgery to remove a two-inch long foreign object which had punctured his lower intestine.

The lawsuit accuses Dr. Amlani of failing to utilize a rubber drape to prevent ingestions, negligence of care for failing to advise James he had ingested part of the molding or a dental tool and denying it occurred, causing deceptive, misleading and unfair practice.
