‘Small Smiles’ Dental Chain Reaches Settlement for Medical Fraud

FORBA Holdings LLC, the parent company of the nationwide pediatric dental chain “Small Smiles,” that serves low-income children insured by Medicaid will pay $24 million that will go to federal and state governments to settle accusations that it provided unnecessary and substandard services, the Justice Department announced.

The Justice Department claimed that the dental clinics performed unnecessary procedures, including removing teeth, x-rays, and pulpotomies and then charged Medicaid.

The government’s investigation into Medicaid fraud was sparked by three whistleblower lawsuits. The Department of Justice’s investigation into individual dentists is ongoing.

The company did not admit liability and remains open. They do not have any offices in California.
